Close-Up Photos of White Hibiscus Flower

by Brandon Peters in Flowers,Nature

When I bought by first digital SLR camera, a Nikon D80, back in 2007,  I experimented a lot while shooting outdoors.  I was living in a rental house off of Chandler Boulevard on Colfax Avenue in North Hollywood, California.  In the front yard were some nice white hibiscus flowers.  I used my 55-200mm Nikkor zoom lens and set my f-stop to between 4.8 and 5.6 to create a shallow depth of field and focus solely on the flower while blurring the rest of the background.  I was very happy with the results!

These photos definitely made for a therapeutic desktop background for a while.  Later I ended up researching the hibiscus flower to find out about all the different parts of it.  I love how the last picture focuses solely on the pistil.  You can see all the interesting and pretty parts which make up the flower like the stigmas, styles, anthers and filaments.

Beautiful! I love flowers anyway, but this is so crystal clear and fragile that I can’t help but love it! 😀
